The One Show Visits The Atlantic to Celebrate Start of Jersey Royals Season

Head Chef at The Atlantic Hotel, Mark Jordan is set to showcase Jersey’s finest produce on BBC’s The One Show later this month. Focusing on the island’s famous Jersey Royal new potatoes, the show will be broadcast to coincide with the Royal Wedding on Friday 29th April (BBC One), and will focus on the unique taste and heritage of Jersey Royals. The crew will visit côtils around the island to witness digging of the celebrated export, followed by a visit to Ocean Restaurant at The Atlantic Hotel to sample spuds specially prepared by Head Chef Mark Jordan.

Jersey Royals have been grown on Jersey for over one hundred years, and are often referred to as the ‘champagne of the potato world’. With seasonality and going local being the buzz words on everyone’s lips, Jersey Royal new potatoes are one of the few truly British seasonal products still available – springtime is Jersey Royals time as the season runs from the beginning of April to the end of June – and they are the only British fresh product to have a coveted protection of “designation of origin”.

Mark Jordan, who heads up the Michelin-starred Ocean Restaurant at The Atlantic Hotel on the west coast of the island, will demonstrate different ways to prepare Jersey Royals which viewers can then try out at home. Working together with the Genuine Jersey Products Association, Mark uses the best local ingredients whenever possible.

The summer months see the introduction of Mark’s Tasting Menu which is designed to feature the finest and freshest produce from Jersey’s coast and countryside. This seven course tasting menu uses many products which already have international recognition and arrive straight into the kitchen bearing the distinctive Genuine Jersey logo.
