Douglas

Douglas Promenade Heritage Walk - Take a self-guided walk along this sweeping Victorian promenade overlooking Douglas Bay. Ride the historic Douglas Bay Horse Tramway, explore the Sunken Gardens and gaze at the iconic Tower of Refuge set in the middle of the bay. Stop at ice creams shops and arcades along the seafront, combining the walk with shopping and museums in central Douglas.

Gaiety Theatre – Visit one of the Isle’s most famous historic landmarks with live performances including theatre, comedy and musicals available to see. Admire the stunning Victoria architecture, decorative ceilings or take a guided backstage tour to explore dressings and hidden theatre spaces.

Steam Railway – Douglas to Port Erin - Step back into the Victorian era on one of the island’s most iconic experiences. Climb aboard a 19^th-centry train that runs across the south of the Isle, through countryside and coastal scenery. Start in the centre of Douglas and pass through historic villages such as Castletown – the former capital of the island – and catch views of the Irish Sea as you approach Port Erin. Peel

Peel Castle - One of the most atmospheric sites on the island, walk through the remains of this medieval fortress sat on a small island just off the coast of Peel. See the old defensive towers still standing and see the 10-11^th century round structure – one of the oldest structures on the island. Climb parts of the site for sweeping views over Peel Bay and The Irish Sea. Learn about the famous Moddey Dhoo black dog ghost and see where excavations have uncovered Viking graves and artefacts.

Peel Sea Fest – Held in the harbour of Peel, celebrate the island’s sailing culture and coastal community life at this free, family-friendly, weekend maritime festival. Visit yachts and fishing boats on display and cheer on boat races and sailing demonstrations. Dance along to live music right by the water and savour street food stalls from local vendors in maritime celebration.

Knockaloe Visitor Centre – In the tiny village of Patrick, near Peel, find out about what life was like behind the barbed wire of Knockaloe Internment Camp over 100 years ago and learn about Josef Pilates - the inventor of the Pilates form of exercise.

Castletown

Castle Rushen – In one of the best-preserved castles in Europe, walk through stone walls and courtyards that date back to the 12^th-13^th century. Dominating the centre of Castletown, visit banquet halls and royal chambers and learn how the castle evolved from royal residence to a fortress over centuries. Climb the ramparts for stunning views over Castletown harbour and the southern coastline.

Motor Museum – Explore collections of classic cars, motorcycles, buses and military vehicles including vintage TT racing marks, linked to the Isle’s racing heritage.  Enjoy family-friendly exhibits, watch restoration projects and enthusiast events on selected days.

Comis Golf Course – About 10-15 minutes’ drive north of Castletown, play an 18-hole championship golf course amid rolling fairways, lakes, streams and hill views. Suitable for all levels, the resort covers 250 acres.

Laxey

Laxey Wheel – If you enjoy industrial history and scenic views, visit the largest working waterwheel in the world, built in 1854 and one of the most recognisable symbols of the Isle of Man. Put on a hard hat and walk the exciting mine trails and learn about the lives of Victorian miners.

Laxey Beach – Enjoy views of the Irish sea and explore the small harbour on one of the island’s best east-cost viewpoints. Relax at nearby by cafes and pubs after coastal walks along the cliffs above the bay. We recommend visiting at low tide for more beach space.

Events/festivals

Isle of Man TT Races - The most famous event is the world-renowned motorcycle road race held on roads around the island. The race runs for two weeks (late May to early June) and includes concerts, fairgrounds and pop-up bars for a massive atmosphere.

TT Funfair - This huge seaside-style fair in Douglas runs alongside the TT motorcycle race. Thrill rides, family rides, games and a 10-day live music festival atmosphere is very popular with both visitors and locals.

Tynwald Day – Held every July, this is one of the oldest parliamentary traditions in the world. Tynwald Day is the island’s national day celebrations which includes an outdoor parliament ceremony at St John’s where new laws passed over the previous year are read out publicly. The tradition dates back over a thousand years (with Norse roots) and provides an immersive historical celebration of the Isle of Man’s unique political identity.

Isle of Man Film Festival – Support independent cinema at the Isle of Man Film Festival and see independent films and premiers, including Q&A sessions with filmmakers from the Isle of Man and around the world. Plan your visit in September and see short films, special screenings and listen to guest speakers – even the occasional celebrity!

Beer & Cider Festival - A popular social event, don’t miss the live music and wide selection of beers and ciders available for you to try. A big draw for locals and visitors alike, plan your visit in April if you want to experience this 3-day festival.
